IT Certification Cons Being Addressed

Imagine showing up at a job interview with your impressive resume all in order. Then some drooling dunce comes in with the same IT certifications. Well, a movement against cheating should prevent this sort of thing from happening.
People who are either applying for a job or trying to sort out applicants are affected by dishonesty. Michelle V. Rafter reports, "[A]n overabundance of certifications and widespread cheating on exams caused in part by lax security at testing centers have tarnished IT certifications' reputation in the eyes of many human-resources executives and hiring managers."
Perhaps some of this can be overcome on the spot - consider asking (or offering to work on) an IT question or two, for example. It's the sort of problem that would be better to solve at the root, though, and Cisco and many other companies are trying to do just that.
Cisco will have a single vendor - PearsonVUE - handle its testing. Since a smaller group of people will be dealing with the tests, there's a smaller chance that someone will decide to sell answers or post them online.
Then, since a dishonest person could simply have someone else take their certification exam, there's the clever idea of creating photographic evidence. Pictures of people at the testing sites will have to match up with whoever's presenting themselves as an applicant, so no one can hire their brilliant friend for a six-pack.
With any luck, measures like these will make authentic IT certifications more valuable. In the meantime, stay on your toes.
